Following a common theme - while the city has been in existence since about 1200, fire was a constant threat and many buildings date only from the late 1600s or 1700s. This included the palace which was essentially burnt to the ground in the late 1600s. We rode into the city centre - it rained justas we left the campsite. The only other choice was to return and then walk to the subway - either way wet so we pressed on.
