stockholm city

The camp was only 2.5 km from the heart of the City.  We used the excellent bicycle paths on two days and used the train on the 3rd.  Unfortunately yet again it was a national holiday the day we arrived and everything - except the Royal Palace - was closed.  When they have a national holiday - they mean holiday.

Stockholm has been settled since at least 1200 and is spread across 14 islands.  The very city centre is on several islands and while water is almost constantly in sight, it is easy to forget that you are going from island to island as you move about town. While it is a city of 2 million people - there is no high-rise landscape and thousands - of all ages -  move about on the dedicated bicycle lanes that are integral in every street.

Boats, boats and boats.  In a country of about 11 million - they have about 1 million boats.
