While we were in Iceland the truck was unloaded at Southampton. We flew from Reykjavik back to Luton (that might have been a cheap fare) but left us north of London and needing to get back to Southampton. Another hire car. The car was cheaper than trains and buses and obviously more convenient. GBP27 to hire the car for a day and an additional GBP55 to take it one way!
At the Southampton depot at 8:30 the next day. After all the months of arrangements and anxiety, the truck was sitting in the yard without a scratch ready to go, showed some ID, signed a delivery form and drove away. That's it????? Something else we have to do????? Some Customs stuff we have to do????? We are about the leave the country tomorrow - do we have some documents recording how we got it into the country and now we are leaving and we will be wanting to come back in a couple of months????
Nope - it's a temporary import - it has cleared customs.
So we drove off and found fuel and a Tesco to fill up with groceries. In the next few minutes there was a huge electrical storm - lots of lightening, heavy rain and then hail. Glad we don't believe in omens.
