For us it was the second visit to the Latvian coast. We drove south crossing the border at a small village - Ainazi. The coastline is still heavily treed and a strip of grasslands is preserved between the road and beach. These grasslands are important for migrating birds. SAULKRASTI - a small popular coastal town. Visited the bicycle museum - a private collection in a private house. He has a thriving bike repair business as everyone rides bicycles.

Leipaga is an ice-free port on the Baltic Coast. During the soviet era is was a "closed city" with nearly 30,000 soviet troops stationed here. By closed, this means not only closed to the outside world but also to anyone who did not live in the city. Everyone required permission to leave and enter. |
