It turned out that part of the sealing between roof panel and the extrusion had not been done sufficiently. Unfortunately, the ceiling lining had to be removed and replaced and oin the process the kitchen bench was damaged. This required painting and re-laminating of the bench top.
Having looked for several days over preceding months to find some-one to certify the truck, we finally found some-one who was 3 blocks from home! Organised a "day plate" to enable the unregistered truck to be driven down to Redcliffe to have it measured etc and then registered. It turned out that another "blue plate": had to be obtained to cover the modification to the cabin - big hole cut in it. I don't know why this wasn't provided by ATW who did this alteration and the chnage in seating. Their "blue plate" only covered the seating. Fortunately, this was all achieved and registration completed.

Getting ready to have the truck inspected for certification and registration as a motorhome. The following photos were needed for the Insurance company.
So does it fit or not? Yes and wuld fit better if we took the bottle cage off the middle bar. The aim is to have as little dis-assembly as possible. If we add a quick release on the seat post the bike could be folded to this stage by use of 3 quick releases. And even better will stand vertically as it is designed to do. We never quite knew if this would work out. The floor of the locker will have some outdoor carpet and with 2 bikes to strap in we will also use some foam or other protection against walls and between bikes.
The next large step is the vinyl infill between walls and roof. This will have zippered screened windows (2 each side & one each end). These windows are the major source of light and air - the 3 small windows in the fixed walls are largely cosmetic. We were concerned that a single layer of vinyl would be too thin and waste the insulation benefit of the foam filled fibreglass walls.
The subject was broached with the upholsterer - this must have been a choice before? Anyway he has found some thin foam used by a nearby business who make caravan covers. They sew a thin layer of insulation into their covers to provide hail protection. So he has made a quick sample to see if it works. Of course we need to make sure that it will fold inwards as the roof comes down. |
