test load

Having endured a drive it was obvious that we needed to get back to All Terrain Warriors to review the suspension setup.  As there was no real idea of how our custom body would turn out, the spring set up consisted of 4 leaves front and rear.  Having determined the split weights of our test load it is obvious that a spring leaf needs to be removed from the front.  The shock settings were also adjusted and the spring u-bolt torque settings checked.

We were also originally provided with an exhaustive table of tyre pressure settings for the Toyo tyres.  Our axle weights are so low that our truck doesn't fit in the prepared table!  A phone call to Toyo Australia obtained at least revised recommended pressures for highway use. We have been advised to email the company to get more complete guidance eg for corrugations, off-road and sand.

Just a quick word to say how helpful all your documenting has been. Have been to see John and your truck not long before he finished. Main issue for my truck is that it only has a 4.500kg GVM so looking very closely at your weights.
Interested in the performance of your composting toilet.

Yes I heard that you had visited. Interestingly, the first truck we started looking at was the Iveco 4X4 and gathered a collection of examples mostly of German trucks based on that platform. In the end the delay in their arrival and the 4500KG limit scotched it for us. Having almost bought a 2nd hand Earthcruiser before grasping the payload limitation of that particular vehicle we ended up with the Isuzu. Weight has always been a particular concern for me even when we were only towing trailers. We have been very pleased with this outcome. John suggested the completed house would be well less than 2000kg and probably less than 1800kg. So for the body including all appliances, cupboards etc to be around 1500 kg is very pleasing - and surprising for many. Fully loaded we are probably at least 500kg lighter than a similar truck we know with a moulded fibreglass body. We will also be exceedingly interested in the toilet - it is a bit of a gamble but the principle appeals to us and we understand it might take a bit of practice to get it right. More importantly it means we don't have to waste any of our water carrying capacity simply to flush a toilet. Happy to answer any questions . . . mostly John is the one with the answers! Cheers.
