As we continued on we drove down a track to take a quick look at the glacier - Almerinden - which is an arm of the largest glacier in Europe (Jostedalsbreen).
A sleepy town on the wrong side of the fjord. Once quite a popular destination as tourists came by boat to visit the nearby glacier. In fact until 1986 the village could only be reached by boat. Then they did some more tunnelin and the road bypassed the town by a few km. Now in an attempt to lure some visitors, it is a book town. Everywhere in town sells 2nd hand books - the old ferry site, the coffee shop, houses with small sheds on the street. The ferry terminal alone had over 200,000 books. We drove in for our lunch stop and stayed 2 hours. As we continued on we drove down a track to take a quick look at the glacier - Almerinden - which is an arm of the largest glacier in Europe (Jostedalsbreen).
